Yoga Therapy Yoga therapy adapts the practice of Yoga to the needs of people with specific or persistent health problems not usually addressed in a group class. The Therapeutic Yoga session that I teach draws from TriYoga postures and flows, breathing exercises, meditation, guided imagery and yoga philosophy to improve mental and physical health.
The support that you will receive in a yoga therapy session can address issues such as depression, anxiety, stress, panic attacks, addiction, sleep disorders, eating disorders, weight issues, chronic pain and more. In addition, yoga therapy has been effectively used to treat back pain, heart conditions, asthma, chronic fatigue, hypertension, multiple sclerosis, auto-immune disease and side effects of chemotherapy.

Pranayama Pranayama practices are yogic breathing exercises that have the ability to quickly increase and balance our energy, reduce stress, improve our mental clarity, and improve our physical health. When our energy (prana) is depleted, this results in increased worry, fear, uncertainty, conflict, tension and other negative emotions. When the energy (prana) level is high and its flow is continuous, smooth and steady, then the mind is calm, positive and enthusiastic.
TriYoga offers a systematic approach to pranayama practices. The private session gives the opportunity to learn these practices in great detail with individualized attention. Simple yoga movements, concentration practices and meditation are also included in this session.
Meditation Following the teachings of TriYoga I offer a meditation practice called PranaVidya. PranaVidya which is translated as, Knowledge of the Life Force, includes the trinity of breathing practices, concentration, and meditation. The session typically starts with gentle yoga movements to release tensions in the body to prepare for sitting, and breathing practices to calm the nervous system and center the mind. Some discussion of current or underlying issues may occur. You will learn specific concentration techniques to gain inner and outer mental steadiness which unfolds into meditation and a state of being present.
Some of the benefits of meditation are: it increases immune function, decreases pain, allows one to better handle chronic pain, decreases inflammation at the cellular level, increases positive emotion, decreases depression, decreases stress and anxiety.
Suggestions, tips and tools will be provided for establishing a daily meditation practice. This session is for the beginning meditator to the experienced practitioner.
